EZ Kewl rocks the Butterfly Ball and goodbye to local favorite, Joe Morphis
Children’s Cancer Community and Miracles Through Music present the inaugural Butterfly Ball this Saturday, July 25 in Glen Ellen. The Ponter’s Ranch will host the event which includes cocktails, dinner, dancing, and auctions. EZ Kewl is providing the music until 10 p.m. and the cocktail reception begins at 5 p.m. Outdoor summer “smart” attire is suggested. Proceeds will be split between Children’s Cancer Community and Miracles Through Music, the latter being a charity devoted to improving the lives of those living with Epidermolysis Bullosa. Trinity Friends of Music present The Joe Chaplain Band with a concert titled The Spiritual Popular Music of America. Joe Chaplain returns to his choir roots along with Ron Leigh on bass, Keith Ridenhour on sax, and Chuck Walters on drums. This all-ages performance begins at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, at the Trinity Episcopal Church on East Spain Street. Weather permitting; the band will play outdoors in Abbot Courtyard. A donation is requested at the door, proceeds go to the church, and refreshments will follow. Call 707.938.4846 for more details.
If you are a fan of Joe Morphis, catch his two farewell performances before he leaves the Valley of the Moon. Saturday, July 25 at the El Verano Inn, The Joe Morphis Band will play along with Willy Dooze and Jason Huybers in a show hosted by Phil Herrshaft. The music begins at 9:30 p.m. Phil is part of the house band which hosts the open blues jam at The Blue Moon Saloon every Sunday night. Catch Phil Herrshaft, Joe Morphis, and most likely all other musicians from the E.V.I. show this Sunday, July 26 with the jam beginning around 9 p.m. There is no cover at the Saloon and musicians are invited to join.
If you haven’t caught the live music out at Sebastiani Winery, this is a great weekend to go. The weather is cooling off and the show takes place in the lovely courtyard leading to the tasting room. Bring a picnic, sit around the fountain, and enjoy outstanding entertainment, while you enjoy wine club prices on bottles of wine. This week’s entertainment is acoustic jazz guitar from Carl Vast from 7 to 9 p.m.
Showcase the Band has two performances this weekend. Saturday, July 25 they will play classic rock and more from 9:30 p.m. on at Steiners Tavern. There is no cover for this show. At 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, Patti Perez switches from bass to accordion to play American & European ballroom, swing, and more. This show happens at Little Switzerland and there is a cover. Call 707.938.9990 for details. Also at Steiners this weekend, BackTrax will play an acoustic set beginning at 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 26.
Jazz for this weekend includes Jon Popenoe & Friends performing in the Marketplace Gazebo this Friday, July 24 at 6:30 p.m. The John Kalleen Group will perform at The Plaza Bistro while pianist Lee Bloom tickles the ivories at The Lodge at Sonoma. Both are Friday, July 24 at 7 p.m. with no cover. Saturday, July 25, Vibraphonist Tyler Blanton’s Quartet travels all the way from New York to play The Lodge with no cover. This show is also at 7 p.m.
Finally, the line up for Murphy’s Irish Pub will be quite entertaining this weekend. Start off Friday, July 24, at 8 p.m. with bluegrass from The David Thom Band. The Steve Dudgeon Quartet will play jazz on Saturday, July 25 also at 8 p.m. And at 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, enjoy old standards and originals from Peter Lamson. No cover for all shows.
