Wineries provide musical tastings all weekend long…
At Nicholson Ranch, J and J Productions and The Nicholson Ranch Players perform in the new and original “Wine, Women and Song: An Excellent Adventure.” The musical play begins where “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure” left off. Players will include Rick Love, Carson Campbell, Dana Land and Jill Wagoner. Performances will be held Aug. 28-30 at 8 p.m. with special preshow performances by Vox Populi on Aug 29 and 30 at 7:30 p.m. For tickets and information call 707.799.5547 or 707.996.9207.
Just over the hill in beautiful St. Helena, Kuleto Estate Winery is presenting The Al Fresco Harvest Party this Saturday, Aug. 29 with live entertainment from Sonoma’s own BackTrax classic oldies band. The event begins at 4 p.m. with an al fresco buffet made up of creations from chef Janelle Weaver available at 5 p.m. Call 707.963.9750 for ticket information and directions.
Closer to home in Kenwood, The Joe Chaplain Band performs against the hills of Sugarloaf Mountain at the Landmark Vineyards. Because they are performing in the courtyard, it is the perfect place to enjoy a picnic while listening to great local music. The show begins at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29. Admission is free and music lovers of all ages are invited. Landmark is located at 101 Adobe Canyon Road.
Sebastiani Vineyards won’t be left out this weekend as they are hosting the ever popular Hellhounds at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 28, in the Barrel Room. Finish Line BBQ continues to provide delicious food offerings throughout the event. There is no cover and is open to those over 21.
EZ Kewl is not to be left out of the winery lineups. Imagery Estate Winery, another gorgeous location, will host them in a show from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29. There is no cover and food is available from the winery’s wood fire oven. Other shows for the Kewl ones include The Schellville Grill on Friday, Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. and Zin Farm Restaurant in Healdsburg from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 30.
Put on your cowboy hats and spurs and join Showcase the Band for the Round-Up Dance & BBQ sponsored by the Rotary Club of Sonoma Valley. The event benefits the The Rotary Kitchen, The Ecology Center, The Boys & Girls Club of Sonoma, The Teen Center, and The Community Garden. Attendees will enjoy dinner, dancing, and a live auction all held at the Sonoma Veterans Building beginning at 6:30 p.m. Call 707.935.1420 for more information. Showcase the Band will also be performing at Steiners Tavern on Saturday, Aug. 29 at 9:30 p.m.
Murphy’s Irish Pub presents The Lonesome Holler String Band on Friday, Aug. 28. The Carrtunes will play Saturday Aug. 29. Both shows are at 8 p.m. Wrapping up the weekend on Sunday, Aug. 30, is singer/songwriter Lane Tietgan. His show begins at 6 p.m. Murphy’s is located at 464 First Street East.
The jazz this weekend is easy to find. Friday, Aug. 28, at 4:30 p.m. catch The Jazz Roots Trio at the Saddles Garden Party. Later that evening, stop by the Harmony Lounge at The Ledson Hotel for jazz duo Jess Petty and Ken Chambers. They begin at 6 p.m. with a small cover. Down the block at The Plaza Bistro, a quartet led by Dalt Williams plays at 7 p.m. And rounding off the Friday, Aug. 28 jazz line up is Mike Greensill with live jazz at The Lodge at Sonoma beginning at 7 p.m. On Saturday, Aug. 29 The Lodge has Eric Shifrin & the In Crowd from 7 p.m. on with no cover.
Other music this weekend includes 100 Faces at Mondo, An American Beer Garden beginning at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29 and The Cynthia Tarr Band for their monthly show at Olive & Vine in Glen Ellen on Friday, Aug. 28, also at 7 p.m.
