Sonoma Scene: Pink Ribbon day | Día de Los Muertos

Staff Report

Pink Ribbon day

On Thursday, Oct. 30, Sonoma and Glen Ellen Village Market’s “Pink Ribbon Day” fundraiser touted a crowd of celebrity checkers and baggers to raise money for the support of Sonoma Valley Hospital’s Mammography Digital Program. Between the two stores, $12,500 was raised for the breast cancer preventative service.

Día de Los Muertos

In a time-honored tradition of remembrance and respect, El Día de Los Muertos, or the “Day of the Dead,” was celebrated around Sonoma by the La Luz Center, Sonoma Valley Museum of Art and Sonoma Community Center on Sunday, Nov. 1. Beautiful altars to honor those who have passed were arranged at La Luz and the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art presented their own altar built by local artists, as well as live music by The Carlos Herrera Band. In the evening, a procession highlighted by musicians and luminarias brought the celebration to a close at the Sonoma Community Center.
