Magical holiday music abounds …
This Saturday, Dec. 12, the fabulous Nina Storey returns for The En-er-gy Holiday Celebration and Concert at En-er-gy Fitness Studio. Local duo, Sue Albano and Mark Dennis will open the show beginning at 8 p.m., with doors opening at 7 p.m. Tickets in advance are encouraged and are available at Venus Envy and Tiddle E Winks. Nina will be singing a preview of her songs on KSVY’s The Mix Tape, hosted by yours truly, Cat Smith, on Saturday, Dec. 12 beginning at 1 p.m. on 91.3 FM or streamed live at ksvy.org. The Sonoma Valley Chorale is performing their annual Christmas concert this weekend. “A USO Christmas” will be performed Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 12-13, over three concerts at The Sonoma Veterans Memorial Building. Saturday’s show is at 8 p.m. and Sunday has a matinee at 2 p.m. and an evening show at 7:30 p.m. Hosted by Ed Vaughn and under the direction of David Irvine, enjoy Christmas favorites from the United Service Organizations eras of World War II through Vietnam. A portion of each ticket will be donated to the USO. Santa is expected to make an appearance. It is reserved seating and tickets are available by calling 707.935.1576 or from Pharmaca and The UPS Store, with discounts for children and seniors. The Sonoma Valley Chorale is also registering singers for their March performance of “Brilliantly Bernstein.” Applications can be found on their Web site sonomavalleychorale.org.
Join Sebastiani Theatre in celebrating the season with their fifth annual Holiday Season Extravaganza: Music, Magic & More. Take your choice of two matinees either on Saturday, Dec. 12 or Sunday, Dec. 13, both at 2 p.m. The show promises a celebration of Sonoma’s community through song, dance, and magic. It is fit for the whole family. The very busy Santa Claus will also be making an appearance at the theater. Call 707.996.9756 for tickets.
El Dorado Kitchenette is spending the weekend jazzin’. Friday, Dec. 11, Bay Area musician, Keith Andrew, will perform jazzy world beats. If you’re looking for EZ Kewl, they can be found at the Kitchenette on Saturday, Dec. 12. Both shows are from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., with no cover. For even more jazz, catch bassist Chris Amberger with Grant Levin on piano for “Jazz in the Back” at The Plaza Bistro Friday, Dec. 11 at 7 p.m.
Every night Murphy’s Irish Pub has something going on. Tonight, Thursday, Dec. 10, is open mic night. This is open to all performers, but fills up fast so call 707.287.7109 to get on the list. Show starts at 7:30 p.m. and two winners will be chosen in categories best song and best performance. Friday, Dec. 11 hear Celtic music from Kith & Kin. Americana music follows Saturday, Dec. 12 with acoustic music from The Cork Pullers. Both shows begin at 8 p.m. Finally, wrap up the weekend with David Aguilar and Peter McCauley of Tudo Bem. Their acoustic show begins at 6 p.m. No cover for any of these nights.
The Nooners Concert Series at Sonoma Hills continues Thursday, Dec. 10 at of course, noon. Jazz guitarist Brian Nova will perform at Sonoma Hills Retirement Community until 2 p.m. This event is organized by The Sonoma Valley Jazz Society. Coffee and cookies are served. Other music this weekend includes the ever popular Whiskey Thieves playing Steiners Tavern, Friday, Dec. 11 at 10 p.m. This show is in conjunction with classic rock radio station 107.7 FM, “The Bone.” Saturday, Dec. 12 at 10 p.m. Steiners has a DJ to keep you groovin’ all night long. Also, out at Sebastiani Winery, The Rolling Blackouts will perform. The rock and soul can be heard Friday, Dec. 11 at 7 p.m. There is no cover at either venue.
