Celebrate the end of the Christmas season with music.
Thanks to Christmas, things are a little slow on the music front, but there are still great local music choices as well as some great things to do just a short jaunt out of town.
El Dorado Kitchenette presents one of the most truly unique musical acts in the valley. Michel Saga will perform in the Fireplace Lounge on Saturday, Dec. 26 at 6:30 p.m. Michel sings the songs of Paris while accompanying himself on the French barrel organ. Listeners will believe they are at a quaint Parisian bistro. The Kitchenette has an artisanal menu with wine, beer, and espresso available. There is no cover. El Dorado Kitchenette will be closed on Christmas Day.
Just a friendly warning, two other regular music haunts will not have music this weekend due to the holidays. There will be no “Jazz in the Back” at the Plaza Bistro and Mondo, An American Beer Garden will not have a band performing. Also, Little Switzerland will be closed for the entire weekend.
Steiners Tavern will have BackTrax classic rock band playing at 10 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 26. Come out and celebrate band member, Oscar Mooneyhan’s birthday. There is no cover and hopefully cake.
Murphy’s Irish Pub will close early on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, but the rest of the weekend has some great music selections. High Country will play traditional bluegrass music on Saturday, Dec. 26 at 8 p.m. On Sunday, Sonoma County band, The Tonewoods, will play folk music beginning at 6 p.m. There is no cover for either show. “Nooners” are a series of concerts sponsored by Sonoma Homecare and arranged by The Sonoma Valley Jazz Society. They are conveniently scheduled at noon on Thursdays to suit a senior’s lifestyle. This week enjoy vocalist Daria with Dave Bell on guitar, Thursday, Dec. 24. Coffee and cookies are provided and a box lunch can be ordered ahead of time by calling 707.938.7371. During the winter months, concerts are performed at The Sonoma Hills Retirement Community located at 405 W. MacArthur St. The show is free.
Emmy’s Spaghetti Shack invites you to an after Christmas reggae party. Blessed Coast will provide the entertainment at 10 p.m. This is also a canned food drive so celebrate the giving season by bringing a can or two of nonperishable food.
EZ Kewl will be playing the brunch set at The Schellville Grill on Sunday, Dec 27. Skip the leftovers and enjoy the delectable treats of the Grill will listening to the jazzy greats of EZ Kewl. Music begins at 10:30 a.m. and continues throughout lunch. The Schellville Grill is easy to find at 22900 Broadway.
KSVY’s own Smokin’ Joe Herrschaft will perform with his Delta Blues trio, 3 On a Match, just over the hill in Napa. Saturday, Dec. 26 at 8:30 p.m. join them at Uva Trattoria located at 1040 Clinton St. at Brown. The trio is made up of Paul Christopolous on the stand up bass, “Steelhead” Christopolous on National slide guitar, and Joe Herrshaft on vocals and harmonica. There is no cover, but call 707.255.6646 if you’d like reservations.
Also in Napa this weekend, Sonoma’s own The Steve Dudgeon Quartet will be performing two shows at Silo’s Jazz Club on Saturday, Dec. 26. The first is at 8 p.m. and the second is at 9:45 p.m., but guests at the first show are welcome to stay for the second at no additional charge. For tickets or more information call 707.251.5833.
If you didn’t get what you wanted for Christmas, here is a great gift to give yourself. The Brian Setzer Orchestra will perform their “Christmas Rocks!” show at The Wells Fargo Center for the Arts in Santa Rosa on Dec. 26 and 27. It’s a performance not to be missed.
