Students at Sonoma Valley High School were recently treated to a presentation from Ex’pression College for Digital Arts in Emeryville. The school’s outreach coordinator, Carly James, gave two presentations; one to Peter Hansen’s advanced video production class and another to Andy Mitchell’s photography class. Both sets of students were enthusiastic about what they saw.
If you’re not familiar, the school is a premier private art college that offers a 32-month program with four different bachelor’s degrees in sound arts, motion graphic design, animation visual effects and game art design. Graduates of the college have worked on projects ranging from “Avatar” to “A Christmas Carol” and have gone on to work for companies such as Pixar Animation Studios and Lucasfilm.
Many of the Sonoma Valley High School students present had heard of Ex’pressions College before and were especially interested when big names like Pixar and Lucasfilm were bandied about; they enjoyed watching the student-created music videos and learning more about digitally animating and controlling characters. Some students were concerned with the cost of tuition to which James noted the large number of scholarships offered as well as financial aid opportunities available.
The Ex’pression College campus is open 24 hours a day enabling students to work on their own time. For any more information on the school visit the Web site at expression.edu.
