Music and fireworks: The perfect double feature

The 4th annual All American Music Festival benefit for the Sonoma Community Center will be held at Murphy’s Irish Pub on Sunday, July 4. Enjoy nine hours of live music and a barbeque before heading out to watch the Independence Day fireworks. Beginning at noon, Tudo Bem will take the stage. At 2 p.m. The Whiskey Thieves take over, followed by The Carrtunes at 4:30 p.m. The Hellhounds wrap up the entertainment beginning at 7 p.m. There is no cover and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to SCC. Leading up to the 4th, Smokin’ Joe Herrschaft and “Steelhead” Christopolous will perform the blues on Thursday, July 1 at 7:30 p.m. On Friday, July 2 the Sonoma Mountain Band plays bluegrass at 8 p.m. Enjoy the blues and Americana from Andrew Freeman on Saturday, July 3 also at 8 p.m. Next week’s Farmers Market “After Party” will bring entertainment from Sean Carscadden and Marty O’Reilly on Tuesday, July 6. Music at the Farmers Market will be played be Rich Little.

There are two great options for enjoying food, music, and fireworks right next to the field from where they are launched. Ramekins Event Center will be hosting their inaugural Fourth of July BBQ on Sunday, July 4 from 6 to 10 p.m. Spirit of ’29 Dixieland Jazz Band will play live while guests dine. There is a patriotic hat decorating contest for the kids. Enjoy a front row seat for the fireworks. For information on cost and reservations, call 933.0450.

Estate is another awesome viewing spot for the fireworks display. Their doors open at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 4 for a barbeque buffet and Tudo Bem will perform at 7 p.m. All corkage for the evening will be donated to the Sonoma Valley Fire and Rescue Authority. Seating is on a first come first served basis. Call 933.3663 for reservations.

Celebrate the 175th birthday of the Sonoma Plaza on Sunday, July 4. Beginning with a parade at 10 a.m., the Sonoma Community Center is once again the host for a 4th of July celebration. Live music will be provided by Carlos Herrera Band at 1 p.m. followed by the Cynthia Tarr Trio at 3 p.m.

Carlos Herrera will also be the entertainment for the “Day Before Independence Day Celebration” on Saturday, July 3 at Landmark Vineyards. Latin Music will be played by Carlos Herrera on guitar with Stan Adela on bongos. Food will be available from Chicago Hot Dog. Entertainment also includes vineyard tours on a horse drawn wagon, bocce ball and lawn games. The celebration begins at noon. Admission is free.

The newest music venue in town is the Olde Sonoma Public House in the Fiesta Plaza. Both The Whiskey Thieves and duo of Sean Carscadden & Marty O’Reilly will play Thursday, July 1, beginning at 7 p.m.

Strange October Day will perform at the recently reopened El Verano Inn on Saturday, July 3 at 9 p.m. The band is made up of Levi Chavoya, J.B. Duff, Alex Turner, and David Hinkley.

The Jon Popenoe Blues Band will play at Ricky’s Restaurant and Bar in Marin. They are there from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Friday, July 2 by the swimming pool. Diners are invited to go for a swim. On Saturday, July 3, the Jon Popenoe Duo will perform at Lokal on Broadway. That begins at 7 p.m.

If you listen to Wednesday Mornings in Sonoma on Sun FM, you have undoubtedly heard Sonoma County band Five AM. They will be performing live at Sebastiani Winery at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, July 2. On Sunday, July 4, the SVJC brings in Jason Bodlovich to perform jazz at 1 p.m. No cover. There will be no jazz in the back at The Plaza Bistro this weekend.

Steiners Tavern has Kit Cat Karaoke at 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 1.
