Sonoma’s got all that jazz
In their 21st season, the Sonoma Valley Jazz Society continues to bring high class talent into Sonoma for locals to enjoy for free. Friday, July 9 at the Plaza Bistro, the Swing Fever Quintet will perform for “Jazz in the Back.” The show begins at 7 p.m. and reservations are helpful. Call 996.4466. Sunday, July 11 is the next performance in the jazz series at Sebastiani Winery. From 1 to 4 p.m. sip on tasty Sebastiani wines while listening to Patricio Anuglio. These concerts will continue through September. At the Tuesday night Farmers Market on July 13, the monthly SVJS performance will happen in the Grinstead Amphitheatre. Beginning at 6 p.m., bring a picnic or sample the offerings from the market while The Larry Vuckovich All Star Quintet performs. They will be joined by vocalist and dancer Valeriana Quevedo singing jazz standards and Latin classics.
Sebastiani Winery’s Friday night music this Friday, July 9 will be the Jami Jamison Band. Wine will be poured at the Wine Club prices and food is available. Show starts at 6:30 p.m. No cover.
Last month, Wedekind’s Garden Center started a summer program called, “Sip, Shop, and Support.” They extend their hours on Thursdays to bring in great live music to support the Sonoma Valley School Garden Project. Enjoy a complimentary glass of wine while listening and shopping with 10 percent of your purchases going to the garden project. Tonight, Thursday, July 8 the music begins at 5:30 p.m. with Detroit Danny and the Black Cab Band. Vintage rock ‘n roll will set the mood at Wedekind’s on Broadway. Call 938.2727 for more details.
Olive and Vine in Glen Ellen brings in Groove Society from Marin to play the blues on Friday, July 9. There is no cover and the music lasts from 7 to 10 p.m. Food, beer, and wine are available.
Cool off with Jon Popenoe and Friends in the Sonoma Marketplace Gazebo. Baskin Robbins is offering a 10 percent discount for the length of the show which begins at 5 p.m. on Friday, July 9.
Be the entertainment this Thursday, July 8 at Murphy’s Irish Pub. The monthly “Open Mic Plus” hosted by Sean & Brett begins at 7:30 p.m. Call 328.2185 to be included in the line-up. Friday, July 9 at 8 p.m. the Hellhounds return with the blues. Bluegrass will be performed Saturday, July 10 at 8 p.m. by Carolina Special. On Sunday, July 11 Amy Wigton & friends begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 13 the Farmers Market “After Party” entertainment will be provided by Adain O’Reilly at 7 p.m.
Steiners Tavern has DJs on Thursday, July 8 for reggae night and Saturday, July 10 with DJ XXXenos. Both begin at 10 p.m. Friday, July 9, Sue Albano and Mark Dennis will do a special performance from 6 to 9 p.m.
Mondo brings the return of Hard Travelin’ at 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 10. On Wednesday, July 14 EZ Kewl will perform jazzy covers and originals at 7 p.m.
Jewel Mathieson invites dancers to get out of town for the evening on Sunday, July 11 to the Odd Fellows Hall located at 545 Pacific Avenue in Santa Rosa. The party starts at 7 p.m. and benefits the Sonoma Patient Group. Beginning at 7 p.m., bands The Whiskey Thieves and the Smokin’ Volcanoes perform. For information call 536.2800.
Finally, Little Switzerland will have you dancing the entire weekend. Friday, July 9 at 9 p.m. DJ Juan will spin with ladies getting a discount at the door. San Francisco Starlight Orchestra will play music of the ‘20s, ‘30s, and ‘40s beginning at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 10. Later that night, Gator Beat will perform at 8:30 p.m. preceded by a Zydeco dance lesson at 8 p.m. with Sheila and Carlos. Sunday, July 11 at 5 p.m. the Steve Balich Band will play American ballroom and polka.
