Relaypallooza takes the stage at this weekend’s Relay for Life
Every year the Sonoma Valley High School track becomes the camping grounds for teams dedicated to working together to help the American Cancer Society in the fight against cancer. This event will be held over the twenty-four hours beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 31 and ending at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Aug 1. The theme of Relay is celebrate, remember, and fight back. The easiest way to fight back is to join a team and sign up for a time slot to walk on the track. But those not interested in walking are still invited to come to the event to celebrate and remember with others. There are many opportunities to donate money at the event if the mood hits you, with the different teams having fundraising activities at their campsites. The Sun’s own Ken Brown will be among those donating their time to get soaked in the “dunk tank.” The line-up for Saturday, July 31 is as follows:

4 p.m. Jon Popenoe with Corey Jennings, Cree Morgan, and Jim Holland
5 p.m. The Dollhouse
5:30 p.m. Randy Cook solo acoustic
6 p.m. Adam Traum
7 p.m. Kit Cat Karaoke
8:30 p.m. The Luminaria Ceremony featuring vocalists Jackie Gangale and Shannon Howlett
10 p.m. A special screening of Up!
At approximately midnight there will be a campfire sing-a-long without the fire led by David Robbins. He will have an acoustic guitar to accompany quiet songs near the stage. Dave will also be M.C. for the day along with me, Cat Smith. Sunday, Aug 1, The Naz Band will perform at 8 a.m. followed by the Closing Ceremony at 9:30 a.m. To join a team, visit ACSevents.org and remember everyone is welcome to join us at the track.
Thursday, July 29, Uncle Jesse and the Porch Junkies will continue the Thursday night music at Olde Sonoma Public House. There is no cover and is 21 and over. Show starts at 7:30 p.m.
There will be a Sonoma County Blues Festival “after party” on Saturday, July 31 at The Last Day Saloon in Santa Rosa. The music will include Dave Broida, Bill Noteman, Sonny Lowe, Steve Judkins, Sky O, Banion, and Dave “Shuv” Chavoya. Admission is half price for those showing a ticket from the festival, which happens earlier that day from 1 to 7 p.m. at the Redwood Theater. The after party begins at 9 p.m.
Liz MacDonald is booking music for the 2011 season of the Farmers Market. It is a new format for the submission process so those interested should check out the information on svcfm.com.
Sebastiani Winery’s Friday night music for July 30 will be the Jon Popenoe Blues Band at 6:30 p.m. The Sunday jazz series at the venue, sponsored by the Sonoma Valley Jazz Society, has been cancelled.
Murphy’s Irish Pub has the acoustic duo, Solid Air at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 29. Friday, July 30 at 8 p.m. enjoy a mix of genres from Thick Soup. Blue and Lonesome will perform bluegrass at 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 31.
“Sip, Shop, and Support” at Wedekind’s this Thursday, July 29 will be EZ Kewl at 5 p.m.
New York’s Curtis Brothers Quartet will perform for “Jazz in the Back” at the Plaza Bistro on Friday July 30 beginning at 7 p.m. Also at 7 p.m., the Glenn Carter Band will perform at Silo’s in Napa.
Saturday, July 31, Alligator and the Bayou Boogie play at 8 p.m. at Mondo American Beer Garden. Steiners Tavern has a DJ that night at 10 p.m.
